Sorry it’s been a little longer than I’d hoped since my last post. No excuse really, work got a little busy is all.

So, what’s been on my mind lately?

What I’ve Been Watching on TV:

The definition of "Creepy-Awesome"

Dexter
I’m really loving Dexter this year. I hadn’t watched the show until the middle of the summer hiatus this year and I tore through all 4 seasons in about 2 weeks. It’s an excellent show. The cast is great and the writing is top notch. It’s gory, but the gore is sort-of necessary given that the protagonist is a knife-wielding serial killer.

"Braaaaaains.... err.... anklessssssss..."

The Walking Dead
I had very high hopes and expectations for The Walking Dead and it has not disappointed yet. It was just renewed for a second season, but unfortunately after the initial 6 episodes, we’re going to have to wait till October 2011 to see more. The production values are top notch and the characters are great. Very creepy show.

Other than those two, I’ve not really gotten into any new series this year. Well, I’m watching Conan and the Daily Show With Jon Stewart, both of which are excellent, but not really groundbreaking. I’m still giving The Event and No Ordinary Family a chance, but the former is moving a little slowly for my tastes and I don’t think it will get more than a second season renewal (if that) and the latter is a great premise, but the execution is… flawed.

So to round out what I’m enjoying in the TV world this season: Dexter, The Walking Dead, How I Met Your Mother, The Event, No Ordinary Family, Criminal Minds, CSI, Bones, The Mentalist, The Big Bang Theory, Smallville and Supernatural.

If you want to top four: Dexter, Walking Dead, Big Bang Theory and Supernatural are head and shoulders above the rest, in my opinion.

What Movies I’ve Seen:

Epic Awesomeness

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
This movie was awesome. I really wish it had done better in theaters. It’s audience is pretty specific, but damn if it wasn’t a wild ride. Highly recommended.

I got nothin...

Black Death
Lower budget film with Sean Bean about a group of warriors during the Black Death who seek out a what they are referring to as a necromancer in a village that has not been hit by the plague. Very interesting and well constructed film dealing with religion.

What Specials I’ve Seen:

Keep Fear Alive!

The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear
This was a huge rally in Washington DC to bring attention to the atmosphere of fear that seems to have permeated the American psyche. It was started by Reddit and taken up by Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. The speech that Jon Stewart gave at the end was nail on the head. It was wonderful to see that not everybody is afraid and many are frustrated by the media and its propagation of sensationalist drivel. The American media seems to think that people always need something to be angry about.

Rachel Maddow Interviews Jon Stewart

I respect both of these personalities and seeing them discuss the rally and how it was perceived and what intentions were was very interesting. Well worth a look if you have the time.

The Poetry of Science: Richard Dawkins and Neil deGrasse Tyson

I’ve spoken before of my love for listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson talk on religion and science. Although this back and forth isn’t as interesting as his 2006 Beyond Belief “sermon” (embed below), it’s a fascinating discussion between two of the most visible proponents of science and reason. (I’d recommend clicking through and watching it on the Google Video Site)

Other than that, not much else to report at the moment. Oh, my Harley Quinn statue, which I ordered in February, was finally shipped. First statue I’ve ever bought and I absolutely love the detail on this thing.
